Canal Saint Martin, built in the days of Napoleon 1 (way back in the early 19th century) was not just a solution to fresh water to Paris but also opened transport lines within France and connected the rivers.

In fact France has a very intricate system of canals throughout the country that have historically been essential for transport of produce from the entire country.

In these modern days of highways and air transport, the Canal St Martin is no longer used for goods but still serves for a romantic stroll in a quiet place or a family picnic if weather allows.

CRUISE: The canal offers a peaceful cruise on a romantic early morning through the locks of the charming canal, alongside tree-lined boulevards. Visit on foot to the prestigious Place des Vosges and the Bastille market. Return to the Libellule traveling upstream before reaching the little village of Lagny. Dinner on board.

Day 1, Sat. PARIS.

Transfer from the Hôtel Régina in Paris at 3:45 p.m. by coach to Bassin de la Villette on the Canal Saint-Martin. After dinner on board, join a motorcoach tour of Paris by night. View the breathtaking beauty and culture of Paris. There is so much to see: the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame, and Sacré Coeur. (D)

Day 2, Sun. PARIS / LAGNY.

The early morning finds you on a romantic cruise through the locks of the charming Canal Saint-Martin passing beautiful tree-lined boulevards. On your walking tour, you will visit the Bastille marketplace and the Place des Vosges. Built on the site of a former palace, Place des Vosges was one of France’s first royal squares. During the 17th century, this was a very fashionable part of the city, where lower-level aristocracy and wealthier bourgeois lived in these magnificent row houses. Return to the Marguerite and travel upstream to the little village of Lagny. (B,L,D)
